Street Art of Monroeville, Alabama

It was a bright Saturday morning when the British car club began it’s yearly trip to Dave’s Catfish House in Atmore, Alabama.  This is why you will see the welcome mural to Atmore.  After the Bristish Car Club members had their fill of Dave’s Catfish food.  I decided to continue my trip up to Monroeville.  I had heard there was a new mural in town honoring one of the most well known authors from this town.  Monroeville is the home of Harper Lee and Truman Capote.  Both are well known for their writings and their childhood friendship.

1. Harper Lee is well know for her fictional novel “To Kill a Mockingbird,” which won the Pulizer Prize in 1961.  The story is set in the fictional town of Maycomb, Al and tells the story of a Black man accused of attacking a white woman.

2.  Truman Capote is well know for his true crime novel “In Cold Blood.”  The book details the 1959 murder of four members of the Herbet Clutter family living in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas.

The murals shown, can be seen around Monroeville’s center courtyard.  The day I visited, the town was preparing for its annual Mardi Gras Parade.
